Default Should I buy the game?

Hi , I am looking forward to play this game. I have a ancient netbook right now and I have some doubts that if the game runs on it. Here is the specs:
1.67 ghz atom intel processor
1 gb ram
32 bit Win 7
384mb Graphics card ( 64mb VRAM) Shader 2.0
directx 11.0

Should I buy the game and play? how is the player base? I am going to buy a new pc next month so should I wait or buy the game now? I downloaded the client and opened the login screen, its seems smooth and fast. Kinda confused so I would love to know some opinion from the players.

your specs are better than my laptop which plays gw just fine (it cant even run windows 7)...so you should be better than good to go!

Player base is pretty slim, but there are still loads of people who play (you might want to think about joining a guild--see our guild section). I would buy it now (if you can find it cheap--why not?).
Its a great game; I've been playing for 10 years now and still have fun.

trilogy would be better as it has all three chapters (platinum only has the first chapter and the expansion--eye of the north), though you wont get eye of the north--you wont need it for a while (its for higher levels). So I would go with the trilogy.

I agree. Trilogy and if you can afford it, Eye of the North. But definitely Trilogy for the three campaigns first. It gives you more slots for your characters too when you buy it that way. It's cheap and complete and since a character can move easily between the campaigns once they reach a major city in each of the campaigns ... well you will regret it if you don't have Trilogy at that point and can't explore the whole game.

I do disagree that Eye is for advanced players per se. Maybe a lot of it but as soon as you reach level 10 you could just take a simple and easy quest in any of the three campaigns to head to the Eye (second outpost and easy run from the first) to pick up your three free totally maxed out heroes for your party including a great healing monk.

I agree totally to join a guild asap. The training area of Prophecies called the Pre area (Ascalon city) and especially Kamadan in Nightfall (which you get to immediately after that campaign's brief tutorial) is where you will find the most people hanging out to ask around for guilds. Just say you are new and looking for a laid back guild willing to help a new person. If you don't like a guild you can quit, no big deal, can find another more suited to you.

Since you get 6 character slots I think in Trilogy you can try out (and delete/re-try) and play around with different professions and different campaigns until you find what you want as your lead character. Extra slots etc can be bought later for more characters (storage etc) after you become a addict like the rest of us here. :-)

But you don't have to buy more if you don't want. Any extra purchases here are for convenience and personal taste, NOT for any advantage in the game. You never ever NEED to make any more purchases. And you never have to pay a monthly fee. Best bang for your buck of any game I've ever played.

Good luck. I envy you getting to see the game with fresh new eyes. I've been playing over 6 years and still find tons and tons of stuff to do. Once you complete a campaign you have titles to win if you want. (Eye of the North contains a Hall of Monuments where your "glory" (titles, elite armor, weapons, even pets) can be shown. Then there are other characters using different professions to try out. Different skill bar "builds" to try. Vanquishing and mapping and elite skill finding titles too. Never gets boring for me.

Also there is a friends list ("N" key) where you can add in game friends. That combined with a guild should get you plenty of help.

And always always always use the GW Wiki. I'd bookmark this sucker below as top priority.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

If you get stuck there are write-ups on everything there. Can be daunting at first but look up what you need and take it step by step. It's all about the journey and there is no rush to do anything here.

get trilogy + platinum, platinum is cheaper than eye of the north, while also having eotn in it.... for some reason
plus platinum has bonusitems (use the command /bonusitems in a town or outpost, so not outside, basically)

and just start at the first 3 to learn about the game
also, find a nice guild with enough people, although sometimes not many will be online, due to timezones

there are nice people in the game, even though you also see a lot of people who are not as nice (like in any online game), but sometimes you meet people who buy you your first max armor (like i did a few times for newbies)

if you find a guild which is not busy with faction farm and speedclears all the time, you will be able to get a lot of help if you need it
and also can ask a lot here

just dont go to the service section on the forums, as they are for paid services, and newbies don't really have much money to spend yet, of course

good luck and have fun in GW

Buy the Complete edition (one key for Trilogy and one for EotN) here. Site is in German but it should be easy enough to navigate even with no knowledge of the language, and paying with PayPal is pretty foolproof. Extra 10% off with code 10%13Z.

yes that one is the best--glad you gave a link to where it can be found currently (I had a hard time finding it a bunch of years ago since it was never really for sale in the usa--got mine from finland ). Didnt mention it due to that difficulty.

You don't need to purchase anything to download the game. That's free. What you're paying for is the CD key, which allows you access to that content in-game. Some online stores will provide you with only a CD key (again, the only thing that matters), though you could find some that offer a physical copy if you want to have a box (containing a CD key and a bunch of largely useless bits of paper). The actual disk doesn't do anything important.

If you meant 'will the trilogy provide access to the whole game', then no. To get access to the entire of GW1 you need to either buy the complete collection (see link from lemming) OR buy the trilogy + Eye of the North.

As far as I know, they'll both provide a CD key only.

great. Welcome aboard for hundreds and hundreds of hours over the years. I'm serious. It always has stuff to do in it. IF you want come back when you have a character name you are sticking with and post it if you want some of the people here to add you to their friends list.

And remember to guard the info on that key and make a printed copy of it in case something happens to your computer and you need to re-start on another one. The key is everything.

BTW it can take a long time to install especially since it is the whole trilogy. Some people start the install at night before bed even so as not to keep looking to see if the install is done yet. But worth the wait. (Eye of the North is quicker when you add it).

In mid-December 2 weeks of Wintersday starts. You probably wont have Eye loaded in time for that part but if you get a player to one of the major ports in time you can enjoy some extra fun. More people come back for the holidays to play anyway.

Oh and when you play even people in Europe in Asia these days go to the American Dist since that is where people gather the most now. Especially in Kamadan in Nightfall which is the main trade city.
